‘It is the biggest misconception that a stylist is someone who works for the rich and famous or with people who have more money than they know what to do with.’ Julia Blank

Personal stylist Julia Blank hails from New York and now calls Singapore home. Although she’s worked with celebrities, actors and high-profile clients, Julia reveals her most rewarding projects have been helping ordinary people who are stuck in a wardrobe rut and need an image revamp.

Julia shared her tips with Off Orchard readers on how we should Jumpstart January by de-cluttering our wardrobes.

“It’s natural for us women to collect lots and lots of clothing over the course of our adult lives. Instead of circulating clothes, we just accumulate more. The truth is we only wear 20% of what’s hanging in our closets.”

Julia’s tips for de-cluttering are:

  1. Begin by eliminating clothes that just don’t make you feel wow. You’ll be surprised how many you have!
  2. Identify the gaps in your wardrobe. Do you have everything in black or white and missing a bit of vibrancy?
  3. Stick to what works best for you, but infuse colour into your outfits. Add a bright scarf, a bright sleeveless blouse under a jacket, or maybe an accent bag to add impact to your look.
These simple steps can make a major impact on your wardrobe and how you feel about getting dressed each day.
